LIONS VOLUNTEERS ACKNOWLEDGED AT 2025 KINGSFORD SMITH COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS

Last Thursday evening our Federal MP Matt Thistlethwaite held his annual Kingsford Smith electorate Community Service awards.

It is an opportunity for all local community service organisations to have their valued volunteers recognised. The Maroubra RLFC congratulates all those exceptional individuals who were acknowledged on the evening including our very own Mel Christensen and Di Holford.

Melanie (Mel) Christensen over the past eight (8) years along with Diana (Di) Holford with over the twelve (12) years of involvement have volunteered many hours of service to the Maroubra Rugby League Football Club (MRLFC) – The Lions.

Both ladies have gone above and beyond in their contributions to our junior footy club which comprises over 350 registered boys and girls.

In addition to taking on the duties of a Team Manager for their respective childrens teams, both have also undertaken the task of –

  • Putting together the playing kit uniforms for all of our male and female teams ranging from the 5 year olds up to and including Under 16s’.
  • Organising our successful End of Season presentation functions for both our Junior and Senior teams including ordering of trophies along with liaison with venue managements.
  • Organising, designing, sizing and ordering of the club player and team official club apparel for the season.
  • Assisting with the weekly ordering, receipt and stocking of the Maroubra Lions canteen with all items necessary for this important club revenue stream.
  • Acting as liaison between the parents of our young players and the Maroubra RLFC committee and South Sydney Junior League.

All of these tasks can take considerable time, effort and patience – often these tasks are assumed by many within a volunteer community sporting organisation to just happen without a second thought.

Their volunteer services are even more valued when both Mel and Di are respectively running busy households with young families and working full-time.

Without the exceptional volunteer contributions of both Mel and Di we are not sure how the Mighty Lions would continue to provide the opportunity for young boys and girls within our community to play the greatest game of all.

Thank you Mel and Di for all of your volunteer service to the Maroubra Rugby League Football Club.

Finally, thank you to our Federal Member Matt Thistlethwaite and his hard working electorate staff for organising this wonderful community event.
