THE WOMENS GAME PATHWAY – REMEMBER THE MAROUBRA LIONESS’ TRAILBLAZERS

As we all know the womens game in rugby league in both the junior & senior ranks has expanded markedly in recent years which has been great for the game.

Last season the Maroubra RLFC along with the South Eastern Seagulls & Botany Rams were the clubs who kicked off the highly successful new junior girls competition.

We look forward to once again competing this season & it is pleasing that other junior clubs within the district have seen the success of season one & are now looking to come on board.

What many would not know is that just a few years ago the Maroubra RLFC fielded a side in the NSW Rugby League Womens competition.

From memory, the only other South Sydney District team entered was the Redfern All Blacks.

Our team battled through the season often up against bigger teams with large squads of players to call upon. Each week they never gave up & the spirit of camaraderie amongst the ladies was amazing for those supporters on hand to witness.

The picture below is of the Maroubra RLFC womens team – those who dug the well so others could follow.
