Snape Park Amenities – Indoor Training Facility and New Amenities – Community Consultation (RANDWICK CITY COUNCIL)
RE: Snape Park Amenities – Maroubra
Community consultation has commenced for the proposed upgrades at Snape Park, Maroubra and as a key user of the proposed new indoor training facility, we are keen to get your feedback.
The project will be delivered in two stages:
Stage 1: Construction of a new indoor training facility for cricket and rugby league sports club training.
Stage 2: Replacement of the existing kiosk, public toilets and changerooms with a single amenities building, along with improved parking, pathways, and landscaping.
Stage 1:
The first stage will focus on building the indoor training facility, a project jointly funded by Randwick City Council and a $1 million Federal Government grant. The facility will be located near the existing outdoor cricket nets in an under-utilised area of the park.
Specialist consultants in accessibility, acoustics, traffic, geotechnical, arboriculture, Connecting to Country, landscape, and heritage are providing expert advice to inform the concept design.
Key design features of the indoor training facility:
- A purpose-built facility with synthetic flooring for year-round training.
- Positioned among existing trees in a low-lying area to reduce visual and noise impacts for nearby residents and preserve the park’s greenery.
- Conveniently located adjacent to the outdoor cricket nets and sports fields, with pathways linking the facility to Snape Street and the car park.
- Designed with natural ventilation, filtered light, sustainable water management, and energy-efficient features with potential for solar panels and battery storage.
- Materials and colours inspired by the natural landscape, with potential for Indigenous artwork to celebrate culture and connection to Country.
- Robust materials proposed for both the interior and exterior to mitigate damage and reduce ongoing maintenance needs.
- A façade that combines solid and translucent elements to break up the building’s visual mass and blend with the surroundings.
Future Plans:
Stage 2 will replace the outdated kiosk, toilets and changerooms with a modern all-in-one amenities building. The surrounding area will also be enhanced with upgraded pathways, landscaping, and parking. Construction of stage 2 will follow further community consultation in the coming years.
